You do realize even I disagree with you because you are denying the reality of the game you play.

Nothing is ever forced upon you - choice is what makes you go for masters rather than standard.

When I first saw this "hard mode" thread, I immediately thought - "Oh, this must mean 'completed in PuG'". So, my guess is that it won't kill them... :P

One could say the same for you.

As for the topic - adding *hard* mode to missions and making them count as new titles sounds like a good idea to me. I'm always looking for an excuse to go back to Tyria and visit some familiar and memorable sites, so this would be a great opportunity to do so. Furthermore, these new hard missions might well be the thing that brings the PuG back. Which is great.

I suggested Hard Mode - stole it from Diablo, ofc - back in the day when we were somewhat bored with Prophecies and Factions was still months away. Not saying that Anet got the idea from me or even read my suggestion, but it's something I thought would add a lot to the game.

Thanks, Anet. I know you guys listen to us, but it seems like it takes a few months or a year in this case for our suggestions to get implemented

I know, I know, I'm in the 90% of GW players who see a good thing and go, "Yay!!" and then a minute later go, "But you should have done this a long time ago" or "What about this other thing that needs fixing?"

We're a buncha spoiled ingrates ;P

I'm not entirely sure i get you...

We have no choice in the matter. We either rush and get masters and not have to waste time coming through again and rushing... or take it slowly and just get standard. We can't get masters playing at a steady pace (Grand Court? Vizunah?), unless you rush around frantically you fail it very easily.

I like having masters... but i'd like to get it without been forced to rush. Thats what was good about the Bonus' in Tyria.

It's true that the bigger part of Factions missions were time based.
I for one liked it.
Seeing how fast you can clear a mission with a pug is somewhat rewarding in itself. 15 minutes Vizunah anyone? woot!!!
Anyways. As some people above me posted, this is a completely optional title;
People complaining about how hard this would be are the ones that are already struggling to complete bonuses/masters. Maybe there's something wrong with the way you play then.
Any added challenge is a good one.
There's constant whining about how bored people are having to go through the same content over and over.
Wake up. Noone forced you to do it and for people who still like to revisit they're adding additional challenges.
This can only be a good thing.

I'm very much looking forward to this. I enjoy doing missions again and again when helping out guildies or bringing new characters through it, and this will just make it more challenging for my characters who already have Protector.
I'm also one of the people who enjoyed Factions's timed missions. Sure, you had to rush a bit to get masters, but it was fun trying to come up with ways to become faster and more effective in the mission.

I agree with the above posters: if you don't like the idea, then don't play in hard mode. Nobody's forcing you to play through the missions again.

And thank you, Anet!

Its always fun to see how fast you can complete missions... but why does a bonus have to be time related for that? Would be easier if all missions gave you a completion time at the end. Completing something faster doesn't mean your better at it... it just means you ran a more offensive team build.

I hope that "hard mode" requires more thought and planning and perhaps a bit of variety, and isn't just identical missions but with lvl 30 monsters. Maybe make it humans only (no heroes or hench) to bring back interactive play, or drastically limit skill choices for your bar to encourage skill diversity, or really bizarre environmental effects. If it's just more or higher-level monsters, it'll just be the same cookie-cutter crap all over again.

I hope that "hard mode" entails allowing real players to control monsters, meaning you're not fighting AI.

I want to drop phat loot.

The idea to do the Ascalon missions again with level 24 Charr has some potential. Could make the low level areas of Prophecies interesting again.

But it must be done right.

Many missions are simply too easy and badly designed and do not need buffed mobs or a timer or whatever. Making them artificially harder in the unenjoyable "DoA" way is what is to be feared.

Unhappy Hard Mode?

first off

the thought of having to complete missions all over again does not add to the replay value of guild wars, in fact it takes that away.

25 missions in tyria
13 in cantha
20 in elona

is anyone going to want to redo 58 missions ALL over again for a title they cherished getting the first time?

this feels like a underhanded attempt to persuade players to go back to previous campaigns, due to the fact that players are now spread across 3 campaigns theres less activity in the previous ones. this seems like the perfect reason to swarm back into Tyria and Cantha and redo the same old missions that most people dont ever want to repeat...auroras glade anyone?

instead of spending time "fixing" titles, y not focus on what we've been told were going to get, such as a method to max out sunspear points (excluding exploits)....i noticed wintersday came...and it passed, yet that update so many people were looking forward to never showed up like we were told. wasnt there talk about urgoz and the Deep becoming more accessable? hmm guess anet forgot about that and figured o well lets screw over titles and nerf a bunch of skills.

honestly...dont you think these efforts were better put towards something else that NEEDED fixing?

yes im unhappy, but so is everyone else ive talked with about this title issue....simply put...IT SUCKS!! :-(

EDIT: this isnt so much complaining as it seems, just disappointment that instead of fixing what was said would be, anet goes ahead and "fixes" something that wasnt broken.

As long as current Protectors can still get the Guardian title, which sounds like what's going to happen, then I'm all for the change. Sounds interesting. Hopefully the 'hard' mode is sensibly done, though.

Curious as to how this will affect the KoaBD/PKM etc. title track though. I assume the normal Protector titles will still be counted as maxed, so will Guardians be counted as an additional maxed title (so two including Protector) or will it not contribute to KoaBD and instead be something extra? And for those worrying about KoaBD title being cheapened: that is why there is a second tier at the moment and why eventually there will be third and fourth tiers. KoaBD will be common yes, but PKM and the latter tiers will be special. They will be as rare as KoaBD was before Nightfall's release.

Well, we've been waiting for changes to the Sunspear title track since early December. One would hope that since that was promised two months ago that would be implemented before any additional changes such as this.

perhaps they just wont allow resses with all foes gaining 3 lvls or something of the sort.
...if so one screwup could mean restarting.

I sincerely hope not. A lot of missions like Eternal Grove, Unwaking Waters etc.. are very very empty most of the time. If there are no humans in some of these then "hard mode" will be impossible to get if heroes/hench cannot be used. When there are humans in these missions I'm willing to bet that they'll just be the ones that "Just want to get through the mission" anyway...

Basically... Anet buggered something up.

While i'm liking the idea of impending Hard Mode on missions... it's likely that they'll put absolutely no thought it in at all. Like decreasing time limits to achieve a masters or something stupid that will achieve nothing but pissing people off.

If it does include damage boosts (or environment effects maybe?) then the chances are things are gonna start becoming cookie cutter again. Dasha Vestibule is almost impossible without a Broadhead Arrow ranger or a Power Block mesmer. If it misses, chances are the boss would wipe your party in 1 second rather than the 3 seconds it achieved the first time i did the mission...
They mentioned it on the update page on Guildwiki tho.
